Summary: Who are The Compassionistas?
Welcome to the inaugural episode of The Compassionistas, a womanist, decolonial, and liberatory space where scholars, educators, creatives, and change agents gather to dream, reflect, and imagine new possibilities for ourselves and our communities.
In this episode, we introduce ourselves not through résumés or titles, but through the ways we see and honor one another. Through stories, laughter, and reflection, we explore what it means to be in community with people who challenge us, inspire us, and nurture our growth.
Together, we discuss the origins of the Compassionistas collective, our shared commitments to creativity, healing, joy, radical imagination, and justice, and why we felt called to create this podcast at this moment. We also examine the role language plays in shaping our identities, relationships, and understandings of the world. From favorite words and linguistic curiosities to conversations about womanism, disruption, and meaning-making, we reflect on how words can both liberate and constrain.
Finally, we invite listeners into their own process of becoming through our first “Try This at Home” activity: Becoming: What’s Your Purpose? Through guided reflection, listeners are encouraged to imagine the futures they hope to create, identify the values that ground them, and consider how they can begin living into those futures today.
This episode is an invitation—to pause, to reflect, to imagine, and to join us in building more compassionate and liberatory futures together.

Episode Quote:
"We are creating a space for expansive radical imagining and cultivating connection, healing, and justice."
Reflection
Before our next episode, we invite you to spend some time with the question of becoming.
Who or what calls you forward? What moves you?
What future are you trying to create? What future can you imagine?
What values anchor your work, relationships, and dreams?
And perhaps most importantly: what is one small action you can take today to move toward that future?
As womanist thinkers remind us, transformation is not only about what we hope for someday. It is also about how we practice those hopes in the present.
We would love to hear what emerges for you. Share your reflections in the comments or connect with us on Instagram as we continue imagining, creating, and becoming together.
With Love and Compassion,
The Compassionistas
